The Post office is a great opportunity for young people today

A non-professional job in the post office is a great opportunity for today’s youth. There are many ways to take advantage of a part time job at USPS. I know many people who have used a post job as a part-time income while working on a degree or path toward their future careers. There have been others who have another full-time job and use their postal work to supplement their income. Then there are those who started part time and decided to make a career out of the post office.

It is in all the news that it is difficult for high school graduates to find employment in these difficult economic times. The post office would be a good choice for some of these new job seekers. A non-professional job such as PSE (Post Support Employee), RCA (Rural Employee), TRC (Temporary Rural), Transition City Transporter, Post Office Assistance and as an informal employee could be a great opportunity for a young person to make quite decent money while receiving their education. Some college students work in daytime positions (RCA, TRC, occasionally, etc.) and go to school at night. Others work as PSE or occasionally in plants and go to school during the day. In my experience, having a supervisor or a postmaster work with your schedule is much easier if you are in a post office instead of a processing plant or facility.

The other way to take advantage of a non-career job is to work in the post office part time and have another job to do when available. For example, a postmaster relief usually only works on Saturday to replace the postmaster on your day off. Because of this, PMR may get another job completed a few hours during the week. The mail manager can give advance notice of vacations or operations so that the other employer gets a lot of notice. I know of an RCA who has a full-time job in a public school system who has been an RCA for more than twenty years (having rejected a Rural Carrier career job more than twenty times). Earn more than $ 15,000 a year at the post office that works every Saturday and replaces for four weeks of vacation. Not bad for a part time job. It is also an opportunity for entrepreneurs to work in their businesses. A small business can work around an RCA, TRC or PMR position.

The third way to take advantage of a non-career hours for the Flushing post office is to use it to reach a career position. A young person may not be on site to want a full-time job right away. So a job like an RCA can be a great way to start. They may only work for a few days a week for a while. But as their age increases and they learn more routes, they begin to have more hours. Before they know it, they work almost forty hours a week (a much bigger opportunity in a large rural office). A few years later, they may have the opportunity to become a full-time rural builder.

A career position can also be achieved by learning the system while working part-time. For example, it is much easier to get a job as a city carrier if you start as a transitional city carrier or a casual carrier. Being a good employee and learning the job will really help you improve your test result when a City Carrier job is in the office. Who hires the mail manager if they have a list of six people they don’t know and a working person who already works for them?

The post office is a great opportunity for today’s college men and women. There are many ways to take advantage of a part time job at USPS. A career position may be the best result.
