Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, beauty is only skin deep but facial attractiveness depends on the aesthetically pleasing features of a person. It can never change unless operated upon. Faces that are more familiar are more attractive. it is very common that people tend to acquaint themselves with someone of attractive facial qualities rather than an unattractive one.

The geometrical proportion of facial features such as the eyebrows, eyes, nose, lips etc. and the distance between them are the facts that have to be looked into, to determine the face attractiveness. Beauty is in the balance of these face analysis features which is called the “Aesthetic principles”. The ‘Rule of Fifths’ and the ‘Rule of Thirds’ are two general rules.

Rule of Fifths:

A face is divided vertically into five parts, each being more or less the width of one eye. The width of the base of the nose should be approximately equal to the interocular distance. Aesthetic balance is ideal when the features of the face fall within these parameters.

Rule of Thirds:

The face is divided into three parts. Top part is from hairline to top of the eyebrows. Middle third is from top of the eyebrows to the bottom of the nose. The bottom third is from the base of the nose to the chin.

These rules are more apt for females. For males there are a little deviation. The above rules are formulated based on looking straight into the face, so the portrait photo should be uploaded with the person looking straight into the camera.

The Beauty Score using a face attractiveness analyzer are as follows:

  1. – 3.9

This is a very unattractive face because of the unsymmetrical facial features. May be the portrait was not put straight.

4.0 – 4.9 and 5.0 – 5.9

These scores determine that of an unattractive person as the features are not symmetric.

6.0 – 6.9

This score determines an average face due to the existence of facial symmetry.

7.0 – 7.9

Determines an attractive face because the symmetry is close to perfect.

8.0 – 8.9.

As the features are almost exact this score suggests a very attractive face.

9.0 – 10

This is an unrealistic score because the score suggests that the face is super beautiful. It may suggest that the photo was retouched. It is very difficult to define beauty. Hairstyle and eye color may also come into consideration when we are thinking an individual to be beautiful. The beauty trends change over the years. The version of beauty may also change. However, the concept of golden proportion and facial symmetry will always be there while determining aesthetic beauty.
